Inside of Aiko Empty Re: Inside of Aiko

The motherboard seems pretty compact. I can't make much out other than the copper CPU heatsink/fan and what I believe to be a aluminum heatsink next to it.

*EDIT*
So I take it that it's a micro atx motherboard? It looks a lot like a mini ITX.

This is sort of new for me. I've built some desktops before, and my current gaming rig yeah, but these microprocessors and controllers I've never even heard of until recently.

Inside of Aiko Empty Re: Inside of Aiko

Hello =)

Somehow in Lithuania I heard about aiko a week ago. I decided to disscuss a little bit here about her =) I'm not some kind of specialist in AI, im just programmer and system administrator, .. a geek, musician, and anime fan. But when I read that your B.R.A.I.N.S system was created with just C# and Basic it made me feel optimistic in some way. A have tons of questions to you but I'm not sure you want to answer in such details.. anyway worth to try.

1) what motherboard you're using?? It's has even less size then microATX!! or it's you personal secret?
2) What hardware is used for information storing? What do you think about SSD? it must be something that imposible to break..
3) What cameras you've used? whats stats does that camera have? I mean in what resolution do get image, how mane FPS, what's compresion would be ok?
4) What you have used for image processing, for tracing an object, for object analyzing, text analyzing? Have you wrote all this by yourself? Or you've used some tools?
5) Same question goes for speech recognition, do you use some software or wrote by yourself =)? I heard that for speach synthezer you've used SAPI5+lexicon.

In fact that's the base questions I have for now. I think it would take a lot of time to answer them, but PLEASE I want to know! =) I want to try to write some utils which uses some other tools for speach synthezer for example package called "festival", it produce voice really nice. It just would be some kind of experement for me.

P.s. did you use sapi5 for that Intel robot too? because it speaks so extremaly nice and with intonations, that I hardly can belive my ears!!!
P.p.s. you like chobits do you Very Happy? so why aiko why not Chii!!? =))

Hi to answer your questions...

Aiko use LS372 which is 10cm with build in 8G solid state (but usuable 2gig for Aiko memory).
However, it is very hot and burn out a while ago. I will have to buy another one soon.

Aiko used Solid state...2G for memory

Aiko can be uses both camera... firewire or USB.

3-D extraction was done using C and C#

Speech was original done in BASIC a long time ago.

Inside of Aiko Empty Skin's sensors

Post  Felomnibus Sun Dec 14, 2008 12:48 pm

Hi and congratulations for this project. I am very impressed about what Aiko can do.

Speaking about the skin. How the skin's sensors works ?

About the horsepower of the CPU. Have you thinked that on the android itself you can have a more simple motherboard and CPU that is used only to relay the data coming from/going to camera, sensors, etc to a more powerful computer that make all the elaborations ? Basically offload the computer on the android to a more powerfull one or many.

Thanks!

Felomnibus

Inside of Aiko Empty Hardware bang for the buck. CPU power and motion feedback.

Post  captquazar Sun Dec 21, 2008 7:19 pm

Did you know you can install Linux on the Sony Playstation 3? Also As you can see from the reference below, you can net several playstations together and get supercomputer performance. Eight PS3's will give you MORE performance than an IBM Blue Gene 200!! Regarding motion feedback control. Calibrated servo motors are expensive and can slip out of allignment. Much better are the solid state accelerometer detectors in the Wii hand controler. They also detect 2 and 3 axis movement. I believe there are two of these chips per hand controler. I would buy about 12 of these, plus spares to re engineer into Aiko.

Post  Aiko Sun Dec 21, 2008 9:02 pm

As I mention earlier, the current cpu is too slow to process 3-D in high resolution.
You have to connect many computer/ps3 together to make thing run fasters.
However, it will not fit into Aiko's body. Therefore, the max you can have is 2 inside Aiko's body.

Aiko have solid state, and many 3 axis accelerometers for the legs.
You will need at least 6 for the two legs.

Inside of Aiko Empty CPU alternatives and motion control.

Post  captquazar Sun Dec 21, 2008 9:35 pm

Ah the Play Station was just one example currently in the news. Other options are the Nvida or ATI vector co-processor cards. Both of these will give you one (1) teraflop for about $1000 each. Also both can be ganged up for even more power. Nvida brags you can get up to 24 teraflops out of one PC workstation. I understand that in Aiko's body you have power management, space, and heat disipation problems. I would guess that motion control, balance, and vision processing need to be internal for the sake of speed and bandwidth management over the wifi connection. Regarding the motion control, I was refering to the number of Wii controlers, I agree you would would want at least 6 chips per limb.
