Soft Robotics

Post  Kthomp06 on Thu Jan 14, 2010 2:38 am

Here's some thing I came accross tonight. Perhaps I can use some thing like this instead of servo's for muscles.

Air muscle

Unfortunately it still uses air. Maybe a normal air muscle would be better to replace a servo.

Hi, and thank you for the replies. I considered air muscles but they are to big for fingers and need an air compressor to operate them. I also considered muscle wire but that get hot and I donít want any thing hot around silicon because it will burn and smell bad. I was considering hydraulics for upper arms, legs, and neck. For the fingers Iím looking for a polymer that contracts when an electrical current is applied. Or some thing of that nature to the tune of ľ inch long even if it doesnít lift that much it could be combined with other strands and lift more.

The other thing is to place the actuators in the forearm:

and connect the fingers through wires.
